Constraint regime

One-liner: The multiscale interlocking set of constraints that constitutes a coherent dynamic’s principle of order — its signature probability landscape.

In Juarrero’s usage

Book term for the architecture that makes a type what it is. Depth of attractor ≈ strength against disintegration; breadth ≈ allowed variability. Folk-psychological terms can name real cognitive constraint regimes.

Not to confuse with

  • A single rule or policy
  • Only the org chart

Everyday example

“How this hospital ward actually runs” = roles + equipment + norms + tempos + legal constraints interlocking — the regime.
