Far-from-equilibrium

One-liner: A condition where energy/matter throughput keeps a system away from static equilibrium so ordered patterns can persist as flowing structures.

In Juarrero’s usage

Living and many complex orders are dissipative: they maintain organization by flowing energy under constraints (Bénard cells, organisms, economies). This is the physical backdrop for self-organization and constraint-based coherence.

Not to confuse with

  • “Chaos” as in everyday mess
  • Equilibrium as “healthy balance” in wellness marketing (different sense)

Everyday example

A whirlpool needs continuous flow; stop the current and the pattern dies. The order was never a frozen block.
