Cognition and learning
Default framing
Mind as inner pilot issuing commands; learning as stuffing propositions; skills as discrete instructions.
Juarrero reframing
Intentions and skills are attractors / constraint regimes in organism–environment systems. Learning installs enabling and governing constraints (scaffolds, habits, perceptual patterns). 4E cognition fits naturally: embodied, embedded, enacted, extended.
Three concrete moves
- Train with constraints that enable (limited repertoire → mastery) rather than only more content.
- Design scaffolds that can later recede.
- Treat “understanding” as ability to stay in a useful dynamical regime, not only recite definitions.
One experiment this month
(fill: one skill practiced under a deliberate enabling constraint — e.g. timebox, reduced options, feedback loop)
