Organizations
Default (pre-Juarrero) framing
Command-and-control, KPI pushes, org charts as efficient-cause levers: press here, output there.
Juarrero reframing
Organizations cohere via constraint regimes — roles, interfaces, tempos, incentives, tools, norms. Resilience often comes from enabling constraints and flexibility, not tighter top-down force alone. Prefer membranes/interfaces over walls; heterarchy over pure hierarchy where complexity is high. Management as catalysis.
Three concrete moves
- Map one recurring failure as a missing or misdesigned constraint (not only “people problem”).
- Replace one pure push (more meetings, more urgency mail) with an interface/protocol change.
- Add safe-fail: smaller experiments, undo paths, diversity of approaches.
