Identity

One-liner: The signature of a constraint regime that can persist through material turnover — not an immutable inner essence.

In Juarrero’s usage

Ship of Theseus: planks change; the pattern of constraints can continue. Identity tracks the probability landscape / adaptive topography of a type. Context-sensitive structure is constitutive of identity.

Not to confuse with

  • Legal ID documents
  • Eternal soul substance (not her claim)

Everyday example

A band keeps “being that band” through member changes if the musical/organizational regime persists — or loses identity if the regime dissolves.
